EXPLORE AN EPIC WORLD
"I couldn't put it down." - S.L.
THE LAND RUNNER AND THE QUEEN BEE
DY51v SERIES BOOK FOUR
NEW RELEASE!
Elyse is dead, and the war against the mutant vampires is over. Warrick is not the general of the Avalon Police Force, the federal panel has six unfamiliar faces, and the landscape has evolved in ways Sloan can’t explain. But what really irks him is Warrick’s successor, General Christopher Moore, a staid worrywart who lacks even a rudimentary sense of humour.
Since Sloan awakened, his memories don’t jibe with the current world. Christopher informs him, he slept substantially longer than a few weeks. As Sloan learns to accept this new harsh reality, Peaches arrests a blind vampire in the wilds north of Algreise.
Beck isn’t a run-of-the-mill freak, he’s a vampire bred for speed, and he’s come to deliver a message. The Saxon Bloc needs the Irishman’s help to combat their drone infestation; an endemic mutation that’s put Beck’s people on the verge of extinction. Sloan couldn't care less about some other bloc’s problems; however, in the last six months, three of the same drones were captured on Avalon soil. Whether coincidence or fate, Beck is convinced, Sloan holds the key to destroying the drones.

"Grabbed my heart and squeezed." - L.M.G.
“Where there is smoke, there’s fire.”
Excerpt:
Sloan stopped at the square entrance, pistol in hand; a female bipedal drone was holding Claire in the air by her nape. Claire had a gaping hole in her chest. Feck. Her heart’s gone. Beck was in Kent’s custody, kneeling in the street. He was in bad shape. Vincent and Peaches were lying on the ground, incapacitated, with their hearts missing.
“You survived,” the female drone said with skeptical surprise.
“Yeah, that’s what makes me so fecking special.” He observed Kent’s military unit and the scattering of drones behind them, his attention lingering briefly on the guy with the rocket launcher. He knew there couldn’t be any miscalculations—not with his friends’ lives in peril.
“Special? You’re ancient. Your genetics mediocre. I can’t comprehend why my queen wants you.” Claire healed, and the drone stabbed her chest, ripped out her new heart, and flung it to the ground with a splat. “You will come with me, or I’ll kill your friends.”
He glowered, frosted, and something inside him snapped. Maybe it was the years of emotional stress, or the years of killing, or maybe it was the fact that the parasite shared her thoughts and feelings, which were more volatile than his. Whether deliberate, he replied in a mechanical baritone, “Kiss. My. Arse.”
Beck was astounded. He hadn’t seen the Irishman shoot, let alone aim. But he heard the gunshot and saw the female drone turn to ash. He pinged continually as a strange chain reaction unfolded in slow motion within his cartoon world.
Sloan hurled Claire and Vincent inside Harrington Square, all while shooting at the drones. Ash choked the air, obstructing his view. Kent shouted, and his men flew forward, vanishing within the ash. Sloan dropped the FN Five-seveN, which was now out of bullets, and drew his second pistol, shooting again as he chucked Peaches clear of the danger. Casings discharged. The drones screeched, exploding in swift succession.
