About DY51v Series

This seven-book post-apocalyptic paranormal science-fiction series, five novels and two novella sequels, has taken me seven years to write and put together. Everything from name choices to book titles, research, and world building has been a labour of love, to say the least.

Sloan Whelan, the main protagonist, has infiltrated my dreams, he’s changed my approach to writing, and even altered my view on life. He’s so much more than my muse. (I’ll explain at a later date). But I guess that’s how it goes when you become immersed within your own creation.

Anyway, this page will be dedicated to information pertaining to Sloan and his world Avalon. I will add increasingly more content as the books are published; hopefully that way there won’t be any spoilers. Timeline

March 2272 Word War III ignites as the starving New Age Vikings or Nordic Alliance—Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and the Åland Islands—invade Russia, vying for control of their meagre food stores and polluted farmlands. The alliance wipes out the ailing Russian military, and Great Britain, fearing it will be next, launches a defensive strike against the Norsemen. The old Commonwealth nations, along with their European allies, attack. Canada supplies the allies with food and water, while the United States supplies arms.

May 2277 World War III ends, and almost thirteen billion people are lost. The remaining inhabited zones have greatly reduced populations and are scattered across the globe in small pockets: the Euro Bloc (EB), the East Asian Bloc (EAB), the Saxon Bloc (SB), the West African Bloc (WAB), the South American Bloc (SAB), the North American Continental Bloc (NACB), and the Central Asian Bloc (CAB). Sixty percent of the surviving races are gone, while others are extinct. During this period, world governments are re-established, and the city of Avalon is founded, becoming the only inhabited zone in North America.

November 2277 Still in its infancy, the NAC Bloc government’s authority is challenged by gangs that had come into power during the war, and the Rebellion begins as they take over the streets and the black market. Scavengers and others who refuse to join the gangs retreat to the deadlands, uninhabitable zones outside Avalon.

September 2278 Sloan is born to parents Elyse Dillon and Patrick Finn Whelan.

May 2287 The NAC Bloc government, or federal panel, consists of three women and three men. The panel establishes paramilitary-type police, the Avalon Police Force (APF). The APF regains law and order, ending the Rebellion. Sloan is almost nine years old when his father Patrick is murdered by Patrick’s younger brother Morven. Shortly after, Elyse escapes the island with Sloan to live in Avalon.

April 2288 Sloan’s mother Elyse meets Tatsurō Shirogatsu (aka Shiro), eldest and only son of Hiroko Shirogatsu, who died in old Tokyo during World War III. Soon afterward, Tatsurō relocated to the NAC Bloc and established a branch of the family business, taking the title of kumichō. Elyse and Tatsurō marry that same year.

June 2289 Vincent Shiro is born.

March 2295 Sloan voluntarily joins the APF just after his seventeenth birthday. The Nordic Alliance once again sets its sights on a target: North America, due to its wealth of technology. World War IV breaks out in November that same year. Shortly after signing up, Sloan’s stepfather is gunned down in the streets during a gang-related turf war. Sloan wants to stay home to help his mother but is sent to the front lines. Vincent is six when he loses both his father and brother. Not unlike the previous war, the Norsemen want what is left of the ancients’ technology to rebuild their countries. Core industries such as agriculture begin to rapidly disappear, as do those with the knowledge to sustain them. While fighting, Sloan becomes romantically involved with his lieutenant-colonel. The lieutenant-colonel gives him the black card to unlock any of the old emergency bunkers scattered throughout the deadlands.

November 2295 World War IV begins.

October 31 2301 World War IV ends. At the onset of the conflict, the world population was 2,032,000,000 people. After the dust cleared, only thirty-three million remained, and most technology was destroyed or lost.

December 25 2301 Sloan returns to Avalon to find his twelve-year-old brother out of control. He takes on a fatherly role. By this point, he’s become a professional boxer and accumulated wealth in money and goods, which he uses to help his family.

January 2302 Sloan takes over his dead stepfather’s business, the Avalon yakuza, establishing control as the kumichō to safeguard the position for Vincent. He is feared and revered thanks to his “no-speak” policy and the lucrative business he creates via the black market.

April 2308 Sloan kills his Uncle Morven, saving the island inhabitants and indirectly those in District L (Limerick). He establishes a supply route and protection for the people on the island.

December 2311 Elyse dies from a heart attack. Vincent becomes the visible figurehead, and Sloan fades into the background, as the elusive but highly feared kumichō of the Shiro Group.

February 2312 With a seven-to-one ratio of men to women in Avalon, brothels that housed women also housed kagema, young male prostitutes. A young female hooker, Peaches, begs Sloan to help her and her friends at a brothel run by a rival gang. The abuse there is horrendous, and Sloan seizes control of the establishment by killing the rival gang leader.

June 2322 Sloan and Vincent control an empire. They also help street people, the homeless and poor. Their futuristic Robin Hood ethos works as the Shiro Group reaches mythical status, a status that doesn’t go unnoticed by the government. Sloan is approached by Morgan, an old war buddy, on behalf of the APF. Morgan chooses him to participate in a new government program, the Independent Initiative. After his completion of the program, Sloan meets Amanda, a government worker and they marry October of that same year.

August 2323 Elyse is born, named after her grandmother.

May 2326 Warrick is born.

November 2330 The story begins as Sloan crosses paths with a South American Bloc troop. Then through a series of odd events, he meets Chase.
